Keeping Your Tanning Salon Safe

With a tanning salon business there are certainly plenty of aspects to cover. One you need to make sure you don't forget about is safety. This way you can keep all of your customers coming back for more. Most of the time they won't even be giving their safety a second thought when they come in if you have covered it as effectively as you should.
The quality of the tanning equipment you offer is very important. This doesn't mean you have to run out and buy the latest models that have been released though. It does mean you carefully research information on the equipment you are considering. You want what is known in the industry to work well. If the tanning equipment is continually breaking down then your business is going to suffer.
Make sure you periodically inspect the tanning equipment as well. Look for any cracks in the materials or signs of wear. Make sure you inspect the cords as well and that they are out of the way. You don't want people tripping over them. Operating a tanning salon requires a great deal of power so make sure the circuits can handle what you need. Adjustments may need to be made by a certified electrician if they aren't.
It is important for all of your customers to know where the emergency shut off button is on the tanning equipment. It is a good idea to place a sign in each of the tanning locations. You never know when they may feel ill while they are in there and need it to be turned off.
Part of the maintenance schedule for tanning beds and booths is to replace the bulbs periodically. New bulbs are going to offer a more powerful emission of UV rays. Post signs to let customers know that new bulbs have been put in. Make sure those that burn easily understand that they should cut back their time by a couple of minutes. Otherwise they risk getting burned which will leave their skin red and uncomfortable.
It is your responsibility to post information about the risks of indoor tanning. There are certain medications that can be interrupted due to tanning as well. Not all customers will have educated themselves about this fact. Sharing that information may mean they don't come in to tan while taking that medication but it is the responsible thing to do on your end.
Your customers need to protect their eyes while using tanning equipment that contains UV rays. Make sure you have a selection of goggles available in each of the tanning rooms. The eyes can become damaged over time due to exposure to the UV rays without such protection. Some individuals don't think it is necessary because they are tanning indoors so you need to let them know it is still important.
All of your staff members should be well trained in the areas of safety as well. You owe it to your customers to make each experience as comfortable as possible for them. They are tanning to look and feel their very best but it isn't a necessity. They can easily stop doing it or go to another location if they feel you are putting them at risk.
