Do You Need To Have A Large Coffee Shop To Be Successful?

Author: KarynLewis Total views: 41 Word Count: 469

Does the size of a coffee shop really matter? It really doesn't even though there are plenty of people in the industry that would argue with that statement. While a large coffee shop can hold more people, it also takes more employees to operate. As a result the overhead expenses will increase.

Just because you have a large coffee shop doesn't mean people will come in and fill it up either. In fact, going this route can result in your business not doing very well from the start. You have to be able to attract a large customer base to keep the doors open on a big coffee shop location.

The issue should be if the establishment is able to meet the needs of the customers. You don't want them lined up around the corner to get their morning coffee. This is why corner coffee shops can be just as effective as Starbucks. Even drive up coffee shops can meet the needs of customers.

The atmosphere is very important though. Many people find it is more personal at a smaller sized coffee shop. They are able to get to know the people behind the counter. They are also warmly greeted by name each time they walk in the door. With a large coffee shop this may not be possible. There are simply too many people and too many different employees for it to work.

Larger coffee shops are often part of chain establishments. This does give them some advantages. For example they have the name people are familiar with due to their other stores around. They also have plenty of advertising in place. Yet all of that hype doesn't mean much if the individual location isn't able to live up to the image.

One disadvantage that small coffee shops have is not offering enough room during peak times. People don't want to feel like they don't have enough room to relax and enjoy their coffee. You may need to look at some options to take care of this issue if it becomes a problem. Sometimes just rearranging can give you more room than you thought you had.

You need to be confident no matter how large or small your coffee shop is. The fact that consumers aren't placing their orders based on this information is good news. It means you have the chance to prove what you can do for customers on your own merit. You can focus on meeting their various needs instead of playing the size game.

Should you really decide your small coffee shop doesn't offer enough room for customers, you can expand. This can be a sign that your number of customers has significantly increased over time. The decision to expand needs to be made after you evaluate all of the elements of your business.
